Passion or Obligation?

Alternative career have become the trend amongst the youth today. Despite of economic jilts, attraction is getting no less on the contrary more youngsters and even others are taking the jump into it. Reason, is the constant development in the field and many are opting for it as a full time profession. Hence, resulting in the upsurge of such unconventional vocations. Moreover, the community also feels the need of a league that is confident, assertive, young yet capable to shoulder the responsibilities. But the main question is how many youngsters can actually dishearten their parents and go against their will. The moment words like “I want to be an actor or social worker or painter” are uttered, volley of questions are thrown. Like why this profession? What is the future? etc.
There is no doubt regarding the fact that it’s always parents who plays a predominant role in deciding rather carving the bright career of their wards irrespective of their opinion (for some atleast). Parents always want their children to opt for white collar or more future oriented job and for some Papa’s business is the only option. For Ma and Pa the obvious notion is if you are not going for regular occupation choices then intelligent quotient is not quite upto the mark and such jobs are the last resort. But one forgets choosing such unconventional profession is not easy, as the task of convincing one’s parent is not a cakewalk.
In the society where we dwell it’s a kind of obligation to comply with the idea of parent as far as profession is concerned. For some lucky one parents gradually broaden their idea and concept and allows their children to take the leap. But for few, the conservative thoughts never changes and burden of the vocation is bored lifelong.
This can be best illustrated by an incident “Ramiya always topped her class but her interest was in singing. But she had to suppress her will in order to give way for her parents dream. Today she is well placed but she keeps regretting for not following her dream. The point is why to take up something in which one don’t even have a slightest interest?
The question that bothers the most is whether that particular job would guarantee a continuous flow of income or not, and if it would give assurance for a bright future. The answer usually leads to parents varied assumptions and displeasure. The point to be made is success lies where passion is, and parents don’t seem to understand this simple fact. For them doing a job is all about success in monetary term and not mere abstract success and satisfaction.
But, gradually mindset are drifting due exposure to internet and globalization as its elucidating the untapped knowledge and success. Thus, more and more people are willing to experiment with career options like Multimedia, Fashion Designing, Journalism, Interior Designing, Journalism & Mass Communication, Event Management, Aviation, Hotel Management, etc. Choosing a career of one’s choice is far better than running after an employment which is nothing more than an obligation.
The trend of alternative career will also allow many other opportunities to flow in. And soon these so called unconventional courses will take the course of conventional courses. So follow where the real call is!
